We set of at 4:50ish and drove to Stibbington for breakfast, an easy fast drive. Then traffic in Cambs slowed us down and an hour later we were moving fast again. Again we got the wrong exit from the M25, but this time we we’re going in the right direction at least.
The tunnel was reached and an early train boarded, getting into France early was a plus. We headed out of Calais and south on the peage, turning off on the D1 at St Quentin. Not a good choice.
The road was slow and scenery, er, farmland. Soissons was passed, we were going to go in but a wrong turn saw us drive around a circuitous route and on to our night’s stay in Sezanne.
Superb chambre and very welcoming hosts. A walk into the town found us eating in a small restaurant ( La Flow, excellent!) where we started with patè, Val had veal while I had a Charolais steak (au sange, er, blue, ) a cheese course was shared and we finished with a triology de crème brulle. Ricard started the meal and local Champagne accompanied it. Not a cheap meal, but after the year we’ve had some of us deserved it.
Back to the gite/chamber and a brandy night cap before bed.
